Kuss Quartet & Naoko Shimizu’s Australian tour underway
The Kuss Quartet and Naoko Shimizu’s Australian tour has well and truly begun, with concerts in Coffs Harbour and Hobart on the weekend. Musica Viva Tasmania tweeted “Kuss with Shimizu warmed us up on a cold Hobart night! Mainlanders are in for a treat.” The Coffs Harbour audience, too, responded warmly, and were particularly honoured to have Gordon Kerry present for the very first performance of his String Quintet.
The Sunday Herald Sun recently interviewed the Quartet’s William Coleman about this Australian tour. “Quartets are hilarious things where you can argue tooth and nail about everything other than music and it’s important that you hold onto your individual personality and don’t let it get lost in the wash,” Coleman says. Tonight the Kuss Quartet with Naoko Shimizu perform at Sydney’s City Recital Hall. And don’t forget the special pre-concert performance by one of Musica Viva’s 2012 Rising Stars Ensembles, the Sydney Camerata Quartet, at 6.30pm in the Function Room. The Sydney Camerata Quartet had a mentoring session with cellist Mikayel of the Kuss Quartet last week, so this performance promises to be extra special.
