Musica Viva and composition

Lately, Musica Viva has been doing some thinking about composition and commissioning new works. Looking back through our records we discovered that since 1965 we’ve commissioned 128 new chamber works from 44 composers, totaling 1600 minutes of music! You can read more about Musica Viva’s involvement in bringing new works into being in an article in The Australian.

We’re looking forward to the premiere of Gordon Kerry’s new String Quintet by the Kuss Quartet and Naoko Shimizu in their upcoming tour. There are also some exciting plans in Musica Viva’s 2013 International Concert Season, officially launched this week. Stay tuned for more details!
