Coming up for Musica Viva

Members of Sydney Camerata

Looking for more competition action now that MICMC has finished? In the mood to see the next generation of Australia’s musical talent? Then don’t miss the Sydney Eisteddfod‘s Musica Viva Chamber Music Award, supported by The John Lamble Foundation. This year’s Award runs over the weekend 6-7 August at Shore School, North Sydney. More than 20 groups will contest the Heats on the Saturday, six of whom will be selected for the Final on the Sunday. Adjudicators Katherine Kemp and Jennifer Eriksson will have to make the difficult decision of who will be the finalists and then winner! Past winners include the Sydney Camerata, whose Artistic Director Matisha Panagoda participated in the YouTube Symphony Orchestra this year, and the Strelitzia Trio who now run their own series and featured in Musica Viva’s Rising Stars program as part of the Sydney Opera House Utzon Room series.

My Sauce Good

Also appearing in the Utzon Music series under the Musica Viva Rising Stars banner are My Sauce Good and Chronology Arts. Over the years, this series has welcomed some of the world’s great artists, some outstanding young performers, and a mix of music from traditional Chinese street theatre to jazz, from tangos to baroque opera, from solo cello to wind quintets. In 2011, Musica Viva has partnered with the Sydney Opera House to showcase some of Australia’s most creative and accomplished young performers, offering a series of concerts celebrating their energy and imagination.
