Pavel Haas Quartet tour draws to a close in Hobart
The Pavel Haas Quartet tour has now ended, although the Quartet is still in the country, enjoying some well-deserved and all-too-rare rest time in beautiful Hobart.
After the Quartet’s Melbourne concert on Tuesday, one of our regular audience members commented “They play superbly and with fabulous ensemble and commitment, strength and delicacy,” sentiments which have been echoed throughout this tour.
Interestingly, after the group’s 2008 Australian tour they enjoyed their time in Hobart so much they made a special request to return there on this tour. Last night’s concert at Hobart Town Hall was particularly special as it was dedicated to the former director of the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music, the late Jan Sedivka. The ensemble met Jan in 2008 and performed a Janacek quartet for him. “He was a wonderful violinist and teacher and a very wise man,” says Pavel Nikl.
We’d like to thank the Pavel Haas Quartet for a fabulous tour and we’ll be keeping a watchful eye on this most promising of young quartets.
