Musica Viva farewelled the Harp Consort on Sunday after a very successful and enjoyable tour. The group was clearly excited to reach the end of the tour and treated the large audience to a very special concert as well as a number of encores. Andrew Lawrence-King played on gallantly after breaking a string towards the end of the first half. Steve Player’s antics were as wild as ever, even managing to cajole $50 out of Carl Vine while dancing in the aisle. Michael Metzler, meanwhile, stole a kiss from one of the ladies in the audience! The Artist Q&A after the concert drew a large part of the audience and included some lively discussions about the prominence of Irish music world wide, how much freedom Andrew affords each musician, and how much Steve earns each night in tips!
Andrew Lawrence-King in fact remains in Australia until Wednesday, in residence at the School of Music at the Australian National University. Andrew will work with students from various departments at the school on topics such as improvisation in various styles and early music in particular, and may just give some tips to the local harp players!
We’d like to thank the Harp Consort for their fantastic performances and all the great audiences we’ve had around the country for this tour. Please stay tuned to this blog for the Paul Lewis tour, beginning in late June!
