Amarcord’s first week in Australia
Amarcord was able to sleep a little longer this morning, with their flight to Canberra delayed due to fog. The rest was no doubt appreciated – when have you ever met a singer who was a morning person? But jokes aside, the vocal ensemble has been keeping busy. On Friday night they gave a masterclass at Sydney Conservatorium High School. Participants were visibly excited to be involved, particularly at the chance to see Amarcord perform up close and personal. The audience was also heard to remark how nice it was to watch a masterclass where the mentors addressed and engaged both participants and audience. Some of the younger choristers, however, were also excited that they were allowed to keep the posters advertising the masterclass, featuring the five good-looking gents in suits!
On Saturday Amarcord delighted a Sydney audience, particularly with their bracket of folk songs from Germany, Sweden, Korea, Ghana, the USA and Cuba, not to mention their hilarious encore ‘on Australian themes…’
Sunday found the ensemble in Melbourne where they treated members of Musica Viva’s Amadeus society to a special performance of songs about the month of May, and others from their hometown of Leipzig.
